Any of the ones I could find out about you wouldn't want to live at anyways. Most are on the wrong side of Dallas.

If you really want to pay a lot of money for a bubble city look at the park cities, University Park and Highland Park. Otherwise you can go to Lakehighlands, Coppell, Southlake, or parts of Plano.

2
Addison, TX. Small town atmosphere in the middle of North Dallas and there are 2 private schools and some really good public schools. Also... I think you can eat at a different place each night for 3 months before you have to duplicate. 12 minutes from Downtown and probably the same to Plano business district.

3
Stay North. The southern part is not too great. Highland Park is President Bush's old stomping ground.

Where are the best places to live near Dallas Texas?

Where are the best places to live near Dallas Texas?
My family is moving to Texas. We are white, middle income and want to raise our kids in a good town / neighorhood without alot of crime and gangs etc: and good school districts. We need to be within 35 miles of Baylor University. We plan to rent. We are looking for a good neighorhood where people are friendly, no cars on the lawn, no strip clubs and all night liquor stores etc. etc. Which towns and neighorhoods should we look at, and which should we avoid? Thanks for all your help.

Your only option is to live in the Waco area, but I don't live there so I don't know which neighborhoods are nice. And Waco is about 97 miles from Downtown Dallas. Now Belton and Temple, are about 34 and 42 miles, respectively, from Waco. And you might be able to find better schools in those towns.

2
If you're referring to Baylor University Medical Center in downtown Dallas (and not Baylor University in Waco), then you have quite a few options. In the east you may consider Mesquite or Sunnyvale (about 20 miles) or Forney (about 30 miles). In the north, you're looking at Plano (about 20 miles), Allen (25-30 miles) and Frisco (about 30-35 miles); heavy traffic in the north though. In the west, there's South Grand Prairie and Mansfield; not sure how far it really is though, it's less than 35 miles for sure. South, nothing really, unless you go to Waxahachie or Ennis, but it's TOO far out... There are other, smaller neighborhoods that have great homes but the school districts are Dallas Public Schools; they're notorious for some reason, but i came out fine after all that! LOL! Hope this helps...

3
Forney is an up & coming community with good schools, very little crime and a nice "hometown" atmosphere.

4
My husband and I just moved here from Pittsburgh and we live in Irving. We got an apartment in a part of Irving called Los Colinas. Very nice area - new stuff being built all around us. I honestly think Los Colinas is in the middle of everything. We arent far from the airport, downtown and TONS of shopping. We really like it here. Irving is also dry - no bars, strip clubs - you cant even get beer/wine/liquor in the grocery stores -- you have drive to Dallas to get it! My 2nd choice was Frisco, a little north of Dallas. A newer area of Dallas that has EVERYTHING you can imagine. I have a friend that lives there and the housing market is great.

5
We live in Frisco. That is near North Dallas. Our neighborhood is new as is most of Frisco. The cities around us are also not to bad. When we moved here from Cali we lived in Carrollton. It was a very nice area and at the time it was a dry county. Good luck with your move.

6
I'd have to go with Waxahachie or Cedar Hill. Waxahachie is smaller and has a more homey feel, but it's growing. It is also only a few minutes from Life School which is an excellent school distrcit. CedaR Hill is larger and closer to downtown Dallas. It has more to do than Waxahachie. Also, it is home to Trinity Church, a wondeful and exciting place to worhsip. I hope this is helpful.

7
I would advise you consider Irving, Arlington, South Grand Prairie. Here in Dallas you wont really find a place that doesnt have strip clubs, and all night liquor stores because it is such a big city. Im giving you these cities because they have less of what you DONT want. Irving would be my top choice, it is close to baylor hospital, and the adult clubs are on the outside borders of it and they may not be considered as being in actual Irving, so the clubs may be considered as being in dallas and not irving. Arlington is a nice city as well although it has its adult clubs at the western part of the city, which you would probably never see anyways because the more west you decide to live the farther it would be to baylor. Grand Prairie was considered a dry city until recently, however, there are no real bars in GP because the transition just happened recently. GP and Arlington are right in the middle of DFW. I don't know where you are coming from but you may fall in love with any of the other cities we have. I've been to the west, PHX, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego, Tucson, and each city has a couple of different little cities within it, DFW has atleast 15! In other words, after you drive a few miles away from Vegas, you start to see nothing, well, here, you have to drive pretty far before you start seeing a whole lot of nothing.

8
Don't worry about all night liquor stores, they close at 9 pm here. Keeps the Yankee riffraff off the streets better.

9
Well, I wouldn't suggest Frisco unless you want to be on the roads forever. Also avoid Balch Springs, Oak Cliff for the most part, Pleasant Grove, or a lot of Garland. I don't think any part of the city of Dallas is a good fit to your requirements. I work in Mesquite and that may be your best bet, relatively close and 2 highways that unfortunately merge to give your more traffic. Anyway, I live in Seagoville and my parents commute into Downtown, it normally takes them about 35 minutes-45 minutes depending on traffic. I like Seagoville and its certainly growing, too fast so maybe you shouldn't move here. Soon it'll be like Frisco where there's traffic all the time and new subdivisions as far as you can see. /rant over/ Anyway, Mesquite is good,I went to high school there and I remrmber it as being pretty good. Sunnyvale's also good if you have the money.

10
Hope you realize that 35 miles in Dallas represents about an hour and a half on the road. My choice would be the Lake Highlands area where you get great schools (Richardson school district) but you are living in Dallas. Not sure what's available on a rental basis but it's worth looking. Probably your best bet if you want a suburban community is Rowlette, which is east of Baylor Med complex.

11
Ok ... I am not from Dallas, but I have visited several times and I took a 3 week class in Denton Texas (Univ of North texas). I would say that this college town has plusses and minuses like every town, but it has something special in the water. No really, I mean it! That area has the most beautiful women per capita of any place I have ever seen! I almost got whip-lash from my head constantly swiveling to see the next stunning young lady walk by. Of course I was on campus so the women were all in a particular age range, but there is something to this. I was told that for a period of time in the late 80's and early 90's there were 3-4 Miss USA's from Denton Texas. If you have a son, please consider moving there .... he will forever be in your debt! And you will enjoy the scenery! Be safe and enjoy.

12
If it is Baylor in Waco, the best place to live is in Woodway/Hewitt area, about 15-20 min drive from Baylor. It's a little more expensive but it has better schools and better neighborhoods. The public school district is Midway High school which is the only good public school closest to Waco. Other options are Bosqueville. Private schools are good, there is Reicher Catholic, Vanguard Prep and Texas Christian Academy. Hope this helps.

13
Baylor is not very close to Dallas, so you have to basically choose which one you'd rather live near. For Baylor University-Waco is your best bet. The only problem is that it's a TINY town, and there's about 15 people in each grade, so their limited choices and who to hang out with for your kids. If you'd rather live near Dallas, Frisco is an AMAZING town. It was ranked (multiple times) on the Top Ten places to live in the U.S. There's very good schools (most Frisco schools recieve honors, and all schools have dozens of clubs/sports teams/fine arts electives your kids can join). There's also a mall/movie theater/ice skating rink, so you'll never be bored. Avoid DALLAS at any cost. There's a HUGE crime rate, HORRIBLE traffic, and bad schools.

14
denton, texas

15
your best bet is Grapevine. It's got the feel and the community of a small town, with the convenience of a big city. there is very very little crime ( i've only heard of some teenagers doing a little damage to the high school, thats all) they've got great schools, everybody is friendly, no liquor stores etc; and they have a historic downtown (main st) looks like a quaint little town with GREAT shopping... lots of vinyards, two festivals a year (one in may called main st days and one in september i think called grapefest) and on halloween all the kids go trick or treating on main st. GREAT place to raise a family, VERY SAFE.

Lewisville is a really nice city. I would check it out. Also, look at Frisco.

Where can I get a custom baseball glove in Dallas, Texas?

Where can I get a custom baseball glove in Dallas, Texas?
I want to get a gift certificate for my best friend but I live in Los Angeles and he lives in Dallas. I was advised not to purchase the glove myself (it was gonna be a surprise), but to let him choose and to try and get a place where he can try it on. So, I need help. I want him to have the best and be able to get his name and number engraved, as well as perhaps using his school colors incorporated and definitely options for weaving style, bucket type and leather and all that.

North of Dallas, in Nocona (outside of Gainsville), Nokona Athletics Co. has its manufacturing facility and headquarters. They are world renoun, and supply many gloves of Major League players. They have dozens of styles and different options to "build your own glove". www.Nokona.com Nokona is a short drive from Dallas, but by far the best quality. You can order online, and they also have sales reps prob. where you are. If you have more questions, call them- i've ordered from them before, and they are very friendly and helpful.

You start off by applying for positions as a veterinary assistant at clinics near your home. Put together a letter about your intent to go to vet school, your experience with animals--types of pets you have had and your part in caring for them, your need for experience in a veterinary facility to help you to determine if this is really the profession you want to work towards, etc. Send this letter to local clinics along with a resume showing any and all work experience that you have. And don't forget to talk to your own veterinarian about possibly shadowing him or volunteering at his practice for a while. Consider taking the veterinary assisting program through Cedar Valley College as well. This will help you get some basic information on assisting a veterinarian so that your employer doesn't have to spend so much time training you.

I would go with a University of Texas affiliated school, and work my butt off to get into the UT Austin business school. If you don't want to do that or (as it is really hard to get into), cant get in, you could try University of Houston business school (although its not in north texas)... but it is rated #3 in Texas (UT Austin is rated #1). But, your degree only helps you get your first job. So, if someone from UT Austin or Harvard gets the job you want right out of college, all you have to do is prove yourself somewhere else. All of the reputable companies and firms promote and hire based on how much money you can make the company, so if you are good, you will get by with a degree from any institution. good luck

The university of Taxas at Dallas

This very much depends on what you want to do with your life, but in almost all circumstances, a degree from UT Dallas would get you farther than would a diploma from AI Dallas. It is just a much better school. I do think that you could use a little more advising, though. Your questions about transportation and housing lead me to believe that you will be a first-generation college student, because no one whose parents went to college would ever choose a college based on public transportation lines. Also, if you are under the age of 25, I would guess that UT Dallas, like most schools, would require you to live on campus as a freshman. I can't help you much on your specific questions about the city, since I've never been to Dallas, but I do know that it is not like Florida in many ways. The weather, the ethnic mix, a lot is different.

3
I know someone that went to the Art Institute of Dallas years ago. The school lost their accreditation right before she finished and she ended up with a worthless piece of paper. UT Dallas is a Texas state university and although it's not the best school in the UT system, it is pretty good. This also means that the Art Institute is going to cost tremendously more money to go to than UT Dallas. The weather in Dallas is very hot and humid in summer (it's still in the 90's right now) and winters are much colder than in Florida. Public transportation is not great in Dallas - there are buses and a light rail system is being built, but it is nowhere near the system that other large cities have. UT Dallas is actually in Richardson, which is a suburb of Dallas. The Art Institute is in a pretty expensive area of the actual city of Dallas, along Central Expressway which has HORRIBLE traffic. UT Dallas is mostly a commuter school. They have a lot of adult, night, and continuing education students. I don't think they even have on-campus housing available. I know that AI would not since it is not a "real" college or university.

4
i think it is a much better major / have future job security. texas and florida are hot. texas is basically florida without the palm trees. you see more flatter land / less swamps and desert instead. there are small brush trees in texas. i think Dallas is the best place in texas to live . Houston is a big city . San Antonio is pretty. i'd pick the college that best meets the education I want to get as this is what prepares you for your future jobs. i'd also pick the school that offers the best financial aid package. pick for the school / financial package.

5
AI is a good school and located in a great part of town--just north of downtown Dallas. There is public transportation via the dart rail to both AI and UTD. UTD is located in Richardson (a suburb about 20-40 minutes from downtown Dallas depending on traffic). Despite its less attractive location, I highly recommend UTD for multimedia study. You should contact Professor Linehan in ATEC. He is a true pioneer in the field and UTD is quite fortunate to have him on board. He has been greatly influential in acquiring the equipment and professors necessary to make this department one of the best in the nation.

I would certainly think that the University of Texas Health Sciences Center would have a pharmacy school within it. There's also Baylor University, Southern Methodist University (SMU), Texas Christian University (TCU - in Fort Worth), University of North Texas, University of Dallas, UT Dallas, and Texas Woman's University. UNT's school is the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, I believe. They're all pretty close to Dallas, so there are lots of possibilities. Good luck!

It's high.

2
It is higher than the statistics claim, they use creative reporting to show a lower than actual rate. There are many Dallas police who have moved to Federal agencies. The winters here are much milder than Michigan.

3
Uhm my brother and I were talking about that the other day. He was thinking about joining the police, the Dallas police said they would train him, but he said no, maybe it is not as bad as in other states, but lets say it is not good.I think it is a better idea if he joins something like Richardson police or other county close to Dallas (Richardson is about 20-25 minutes from downtown Dallas) Well, Dallas is not as cold as Michigan, summers are HOT HOT., but I like Dallas.

4
The same as it is in most large cities in the United States. - - - - -

It's high, but take into consideration the size of Texas. - It's huge. - I moved here from Los Angeles and I have to say that Dallas is by the far the safest place I've ever seen in my life. I was born in Detroit, so you get the point..... The burbs are a bit better... would he consider a town that borders Dallas? Like maybe Plano or Addison. Actually I saw that the Richardson Police Dept. is hiring big time right now. - It borders Dallas as well. - Good Luck!!!!

Grapevine Mills Mall has an indoors skate park that you guys can enjoy. There is also Main Event, Dallas has several of them, where you can enjoy bowling, laser tag, and arcade games. If you love go-karts, Speedzone is the best place to go. They have several different ones you can ride and the tracks are much better than your average place with one go-kart track. You can also play arcades inside too. Across the street from Speedzone is Zero Gravity where you'll see more extreme rides such as the Sky Coaster and Bunjee Jumping. Dave & Buster's is a really fun place to go to play arcades for prizes. They have a huge variety of prizes you can win and I think the games are cheaper than your average arcade place in Dallas. There is a skating rink inside of the Galleria Mall that you can enjoy also. If you like the amusements, there is Hurricane Harbor, Six Flags, Madame Toussaud's Wax Museum and Ripley's Believe it or Not, Dallas World Aquarium, and Ft. Worth Zoo. Hope u have an amazing 3 months here!

Yes going to a texas college will make a difference. But you might want to consider colleges that have a medical school like UT, Baylor, Texas-Tech etc. If you do your undergrad here and with all the scores at a median you have better chances to get accepted in Med school than others. Good Luck!!!!

Yes, you can travel domestically without ID, but they will question you and probably be searched.

You must have a picture ID to board a plane. If you don't have a drivers license they might accept a school ID, if it has a picture. Check with the airline you plan to fly before you buy a ticket.

I think it would be a good place for you to start. It's a very supportive and helpful community and you would get to display your designs and get to know the field better. Good luck!

After that you will spend several years laying out your curriculum and facilities, then submitting your plans to the state board of "Whatever", and waiting for a favorable review that releases you to start spending the first of millions of dollars just to survive the first year. If you can't stand the pain of educating yourself to become a nurse, why do you think anyone would let you open a facility to teach nursing? What would be your qualifications?

Are you sure they have them online? When I applied 8th grade year they didn't have any online. Do you know which schools you want to apply to? I'd advise to contact whichever school's office you're interested in and ask them. It won't take long for them to let you know where to get it. Besides, it's no big rush! Application process doesn't really start till January. :] Sorry if I'm no help at all.

Which school should I choose? Texas State MBA or UT Dallas online MBA?
The Texas State MBA is 36 hours long, while the UT Dallas MBA is 53 hours long. I would have to attend UTDallas online if I went. Which college has better professors? I did receive my undegrad from Texas State. I just want to make sure I get a good quality education. At this point price is not an issue.

UTD is a much better school, but I have no idea if they have their regular professors teach the online classes.

Check out the State Board of Nursing (Texas): http://www.bon.state.tx.us/nursingeducation/edudocs/rnschools.pdf It takes about 3-4 years with schooling. It doesn't matter which program you graduate from (diploma, associate, or bachelors degree) as long as it is accredited, all three take the same boards and have the same license. They'll usually all start off as floor nurses and for the most part get paid the same. Good luck to you! :)

Hold out for your dream school. I waited until the last minute to decide between UT Austin and Texas A&M. I got into A&M first and didn't think I would be accepted to UT. I had already got a roommate and everything for A&M. When I finally got a letter back from UT and realized I got in, I was in a dilemma. I always loved UT but didn't want to tell my roommate for A&M last minute that I wasn't going there and leave him stranded with a random roommate. Ultimately I chose UT because I believed it was where I should truly be and even though I felt bad about my friend at A&M, it was the best decision I've ever made.

2
Congratulations Chris, that's great news. A & M is harder to get into simply because more people want to go there. If A & M is your dream school, then don't make that final decision until you find out if that's a possibility. Good luck.

3
UT Dallas is much more selective than Texas A&M. UT Dallas admits 54% of applicants. http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/search/CollegeDetail.jsp?collegeId=2518&type=qfs&skey=ut%20dallas Texas A&M admits 70% of applicants. http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/search/CollegeDetail.jsp?collegeId=397&type=qfs&skey=Texas%20A&M If you were accepted by UT Dallas, you will most definitely be accepted by Texas A&M. A&M sends their notices out later than most other schools.

4
UT Dallas is much harder to get into than Texas A&M.

5
UT Dallas is harder to get into, but Texas A&M would provide more of the college experience. They are both good schools especially since it sounds like you're going into an engineering/technical field. UTD is a commuter school in Richardson and looks like a community college.

6
Hold out until you find out about A&M. You will like it much better!

You should give these a read through. Usually community colleges cost less. I love being a hygienist and have been one for 16 years. It takes far less time to be a hygienist, but most programs are difficult to get into, like dental schools. http://www.ada.org/prof/ed/programs/search_ddsdmd_us.asp http://www.ada.org/public/careers/beadentist/highschool.asp http://www.ada.org/public/careers/beadentist/college.asp http://www.adha.org/careerinfo/index.html http://www.adha.org/careerinfo/dir_education.htm Hope that helps! It's an absolutely wonderful city. Highland Park is a nice neighborhood !

2
Think north. Coppell is a nice, small community with good schools and close to everything. Frisco is also nice but a bit of a drive. The park cities are excellent neighborhoods but very pricey. Several college options around, University of Texas has a site up in far north Dallas. SMU is close and University of North Texas is in Denton, maybe 40 minutes away.

3
frisco is nice....very upscale...addison and carrloton are great

4
The north suburbs are good, clean, crime-free and family oriented. Plano & Frisco are larger cities; McKinney (150,000), Allen (50,000), Lucas (5,000) and Fairview (3,000) are wonderful too (Lovejoy School District is really good).... Actually, the PUBLIC schools in the metroplex are extremely good! ... Of course, SMU is a top university here... and UT has an extension

5
greenhill trinity christian academy westwood bishop lynche there is an all boys private too but i forgot he name( it is located on preston road) and an all girls school i think ritas or something it is very very nice( i think it is on lovers lane cannnot remember i use to live in dallas for 43 years) colleges are: SMU ( GO MUSTANGS!) UNIVERSITY of texas in richardson NORTH TEXAS STATE UNI in DENTON 2 yearcollege=dallas community colleges( el centro, brookhaven, eastfield)

6
There are several colleges in the area. Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas Christian University in Ft Worth, University of Dallas (Catholic) in Irving, North Texas State Universty in Denton (about 1 hour north), University of Texas at Arlington, and 2 community colleges, North Lake in Irving and Mt. View in Dallas. You didn't mention if you had boys, girls or both so I'll list private schools for both. There are many parochical schools, but I'm not listing them. These are very good, well known schools in the area. Greenhill School in Addison, grades 1-12 for both, Hocaday in Dallas, K-12 girls only, Cistercian Prep in Dallas (near Valley Ranch) 5-12 boys only, Bishop Lynch Catholic School in Dallas, 9-12 both, Ursuline Catholic Academy in Dallas, 9-12 girls only, Jesuit College Prep in Dallas, 9-12 boys only, First Baptist Academy in Dallas (downtown) K-12 both, Episcopal School of Dallas, 1-12 both, St Marks in Dallas, 1-12 boys only. Addison is a very nice but small suburb -- 5 sq miles. Valley Ranch is actually the northern most part of Irving -- much nicer than the rest of that suburb. Highland Park is a section of Dallas that someone else mentioned to you -- very expensive area with excellent schools -- public schools there would be fine, but not in Dallas ISD, Carrollton, that was also mentioned to you, is not one I'd recommend, Plano, Frisco, Coppell, and Flower Mound are nice suburbs. I can't help you if you actually want to live in Dallas because I'm just not familiar with which areas are good. I hope this is helpful and welcome to the area.

I'm looking at colleges in the Dallas, Texas area. I'd appreciate your opinion. The college guides don't really give the inside information about: quality of classes? how friendly? helpful professors? food? safety? etc. I'm looking at both public and private colleges. Dallas sucks as a place to live work, play. Find a decent town.....

2
Some of the junior colleges in the Metroplex are better than others, but as for the 4 year colleges they are all good. Southern Methodist University, Texas Christian University and University of Dallas are excellent, but expensive schools. University of Texas at Arlington is a good public school. The nursing program at UTA is one of the best in the nation, and the engineering program is excellent. All the schools I've mentioned have good housing. As for the food -- well I'm sure you've heard of the Freshman 15 -- what more can I say? All schools will have a prof or two who are jerks, but most want to see you get a good education and are there to help you. Select a school that offers a degree in the field you're interested in, and with the right attitude you'll make friends and be happy wherever you go. Best of luck.

3
Do you mean 4 year or junior college? My cousins went to Northlake College in Irving (nice campus) and Tarrant County Junior College in Arlington. I myself graduated from University of Texas at Arlington. We all went to college to graduate as fast as we can so we don't party much. If you are looking for "party college", I would say colleges in DFW are lame but if you are looking at academics, DFW has some of the high ranking schools in the USA. For law and business, SMU (private) in Dallas is the college to be. For Science, University of Dallas (private) is a top ranking college in Irving. University of Texas at Arlington gets tops for Engineering (especially Aerospace) and Nursing. For Dental is UNT (not technically in the DFW area but Denton is close enough) and Medical Science you have TWU in Denton and UT Southwestern Medical in top notch (my wife graduated from here).

4
I can't speak for all of them but I graduated from UT Arlington so I'm familiar with it. If you're looking for the "college experience" then UTA probably isn't for you. No football. It's really a commuter school so relativley few students live on campus. Most of the students still live at home so they come to class and then go home. The campus is pretty dead in the evenings and on the weekends. I do feel like I got out of it what I needed though. I got a good education and got my piece of paper. That's all I was really looking for when I made my college choice.

5
I also agree with Prarie girl. Check out Fort Worth TCU. By way thats the one in Fiesta bowl this week. Fort Worth is lot easier to get around then Dallas would be.

Wait until you graduate. Or have an apartment in San Marcos AND a house in Dallas.

2
Be prepared to drive a long way to class.

If you have the money and a private jet, you could do both. No you could buy a house in Dallas and let it sit while you finish school. Or you could buy a house in Austin and go to school. I could go on and on - but finish school first!

4
Buy a house in Austin instead.

That's a long long drive. Basically it's like going out of town. I would suggest not doing that at this time until you can exclusively live either in Dallas or San Marcos. Wishing you the best...

Is the University of Texas at Dallas a good school?

Is the University of Texas at Dallas a good school?
I am a UTD student and a relative of mines goes to Cornell University and I saw that Cornell is like a really high top rank university. UTD is like a new school it was founded in 1969, I know top ranked universities were made like in the 1700s, but I really want to know if UTD can be a top ranked univeristy like a school that is really really known and stuff. I know the best school in Texas is UT at Austin but can or is UTD a really good top ranked school or really known? UTD is kindof new b/c they just made a dining hall and a residence hall there last year and built apartments there a few years ago. I think because it is a young school it is not a really known school, but I don't know. for ppl who are trying to make me look stupid, I already post this in higher education.

so you ask in travel and not higher education? utd is the place for you. you don't need help.

2
The funny thing is once you get out in the real world most employers don't care where you went to college. I've never been asked in any interview about the university I went to or even what I majored in. They just care that you have a degree. UTD is a good school. Your relative just wants to feel secure with the $90,000+ in student loans they'll have to pay off when they graduate. Cornell was founded in 1865. Caltech, Cal Berkeley, Pepperdine, Harvey Mudd, USC, UCLA and all the top tier West Coast universities were mostly created in the late 1800's, early 1900's. The best school in Texas is Rice University as much as it pains me to say that. They have top notch math and engineering programs. Top ranked colleges get that distinction because of many things. How many Nobel prize winners went there or teach there, how many doctoral programs they offer, how picky they are with admissions, endowment, research grants, important discoveries, etc, etc. That stuff does take time to acquire.

3
Your question doesn't sound like it was written by a college student. No, UTD is not a top ranked, well known school, and it will never compare to Cornell, but there's nothing wrong with UTD and the tuition is certainly a lot less.

I go to school in Arlington, Texas... so we're neighbors :) But in order to graduate from the state of Texas, you only need 24 credits. To graduate under the Recommended/ Distinguished Program, you should have 26. But the bare minimum is still 24 credits.

2
It depends. YOUR graduation requirements STICK depending on the year you entered the 9th grade. So if the requirement was 24 during the school year that you entered 9th grade, then it still is for you. However, if you entered 9th grade in the 2007-2008 school year, you have to complete 26 credits for the recommended graduation route. It looks like they have a "fast track program" that is only 22, but I am SURE this has a LOT of restrictions. Check out the link below; it details all the requirements for you :)

I mean old old school. An arcade that mostly has games like Galaga and Pacman. It'd be nice if it had a bar too.

UTA is very good in this. but with business admin, you cant go wrong with any good school. I think you can even take this at TCC.

2
if you want more of a college experience, then you will want to go to UTA. I live about 10 mins from UTD (when i'm not at college), and UTA is much more like a college. UTD doesn't have any dorms, but rather apartments. So that alone is a huge part of a college experience. Also, Arlington also has Ranger Stadium and Six Flags...great things to do on the weekends!

3
I graduated from UTA and did graduate work at UTD. If you are going to live on campus and want the full college experience, go to UTA. If you basically want a commuter college, go to UTD.

4
UTD is known for its math, engineering and science. It is a Division III school, with smaller classes, a pretty tough admissions policy (like calculus is required for admission), and a great sports program in soccer, baseball and other sports. UTA is the second largest college in the Texas system. It is an NCAA Div I-AA school. Admissions is not so selective. I would recommend that you visit both campuses. Both have a high degree of day students. From the perspective of which is better from the perspective of reputation on the job market, I cannot tell you.

I am an 8 year teacher who is interested in the salary scales in the Dallas area. Also, I notice housing is so cheap. Are there teaching jobs available? My husband is a machinist. What' s the job availablity like for that? Any links to job adds/ education links in the area would be helpful.

Salaries are set by the local school boards. Check the school district web sites in the Dallas area. They usually have the salary schedule listed as well as any openings. For housing, get in touch with a realtor in the area. www.dallasisd.org www.dallassd.com

2
beginning teacher salary from $34000 to $37000;

3
They start about $42,000 with no experience. I suggest submitting you application. Look on the web and you will find the pay schedule for a teacher of 8 years . I Think u would be around 43-45K

4
The salary range is very wide in the DFW area depending on how far away you get from downtown proper. There are tons of suburb ISD's that are much less stressful and pay almost as well as Dallas ISD and Fort Worth ISD (don't rule the Fort Worth area out, it's much too close). Very outskirt towns will pay just above state base (don't quite know what that is - perhaps the 25,000 to 30,000 range), but as you move closer it goes up. The district just north of where I live is paying 44,000 to 1st year teachers. The one I live in is paying about 42,000 to 1st year teachers. And the one I work for is paying about 40,000 to 1st year teachers. Really the best place to start is to go to the region service center websites - Dallas is region 10 and Fort Worth is region 11 - and link to the district sites from there. Pull up a map of the DFW area to get an idea of where districts are - you can easily live in one and work in another (I drive 20 minutes to work, leave one district and pass through 2 more to get to the one I work in). Each district website will have a link to human resources (at least the majority will) to take a look at salary schedules and possible job openings. Just to let you know, Fort Worth does not post individual positions. Dallas may have the same policy. There are just so many jobs available in both districts that they simply cannot post them all; they just take applications. Here's the link to get you started: http://www.tea.state.tx.us/ESC/?8234398102229Nav=|&NodeID=231 Good luck!!! Actually, here are the more direct links: Region 10: http://www.region10.org/r10_districts_map.html Region 11: http://www.esc11.net/8234398102229/site/default.asp?823Nav=|&NodeID=119

Well, I am in California, but since nobody from TX has answered you yet, I thought I would! :) There are many schools in many states where you can get trained to be a radiologic technologist (the proper term for a x-ray tech). You can attend a hospital based program (and earn a certificate), a 2 year college program (AS degree), and even a 4 year college program (BS degree). The hospital based programs are the least expensive, and honestly, I think the education received there is superior. Once you graduate and take your registry exam, no future employer is going to care what type of educational program you went through. All they care about is your license. You can find an accredited RT program at this site. Just search "radiography" and your state...links are provided which will give you additional information on each program (cost, duration of program, contact person): http://www.jrcert.org/cert/Search.jsp There are two accredited RT programs in Dallas. RTs do more than just x-rays of bones. We do fluoroscopy studies (involving the intestinal tract and barium), arthrograms (assisting the radiologist with injecting contrast or dye into joints for evaluation) and myelograms (assisting the radiologist with injecting contrast into the spinal canal). If you work in a hospital setting, you will do portable exams in ICU, CCU, the ER and even surgery. Some RTs take x-rays in the morgue. Most RTs will also become proficient and licensed in other modalities, such as mammography, CT and/or MRI. This training does not require any additional formal training, and is usually learned on the job. The more licenses you have, the more money you can make, as you will be in higher demand. With additional schooling, you can also do ultrasound. Well, I work in a free standing imaging center. My office is only open M-F, 8:00-5:00. No weekends, nights or call work. In a hospital, most imaging departments are staffed 24 hours a day. You could be scheduled to work nights, PM shifts, weekends, holidays....anytime really! I highly recommend you do an observation in both a hospital imaging department and a free standing imaging facility. Until you see what RTs do, you won't know if it is the job for you! It would also give you a wonderful opportunity to talk to RTs in your area. Best wishes..... Oh, another good resource....check out the student area of the ASRT website: https://www.asrt.org/Content/educators/_educatorsstudents.aspx The American Society of Radiologic Technologists just did a large salary survey. The salary varies, depending on your experience, specialties and geographical area. To view, the survey, and see the average salary in your state, you can go to this link: https://www.asrt.org/media/pdf/research/wss2007/wss07annualcompensation.pdf

All online colleges are scams, they aren't accredited like a community college. First get your GED, the test isn't that hard its like 9th grade english. Then go to community college. Please note certain classes have to be in person, like math, if its a real school.

2
The other person obviously doesnt know what they are talking about. Yes, some online schools are scams, but some arent! You do NOT have to attend a school for a course like math! I am enrolled through a local college and take math online! Its harder but It is possible! Here is the site for the Department of Education, if you find a school check here at this website and with the B.B.B. before enrolling to make sure its not a scam! I also put the link for University of Phoenix, I know 5 people who have graduated from there with Bachelor degrees and are making decent money, my sister is currently enrolled there. (and yes for most schools you have to have a G.E.D. or Diploma) It's easy and only like $40 to take it!

I hope you aren't actually going to school "in" Dallas. Most of the suburbs (Plano, Richardson, Rockwall etc) have very good schools. DISD on the other hand is horrible. The school board is corrupt and most of the high school campusus especially are gang and drug infected. They don't pay their teachers enough so therefore the quality is lacking. Their is very little learning taking place and they aren't safe.

2
The Dallas Independent School District is a disaster. You could attend private school or go to Plano or Richardson for better schools. The best district is Highland Park. Be sure you know what school you will be attending before moving, because the districts do not go by city limits, they over lap.

3
People frequently say Dallas when what they actually mean refers to all the suburbs of Dallas as well. If you will actually live in Dallas, then you'd be much better off going to a private school. The Dallas Independent School District does not have a good reputation. The drop out rate is extremely high. It was just announced that the school board has not renewed the Superintendents contract so with a new one maybe things will improve, but that will take time. The schools districts in Highland Park, Plano, Richardson & Southlake are excellent and most of the other suburbs are good. As you were told in another answer you need to check your address to see which school district you'll attend because the school districts don't always follow city limit lines. Example: Some students who live in the suburb of Irving attend Carrollton schools and some students who live in Grand Prairie attend Irving schools and also Arlington schools. As long as you go to a good school I think you'll enjoy high school life in the States.

4
DISD has not so great schools. if you are going to school in DISD then i feel kind of sorry for you. try applying to a private school in Dallas like St. Marks or Jesuit or Cistercian if you are a guy or Hockaday or Ursuline if you are a girl. they also have good coed schools like Parish, ESD, Greenhill... the suburbs have good schools like PISD and RISD and CISD.

Yes, they can. If you don't like their terms, then don't go to that school. You may have some fun when out of school, too, looking for a job that doesn't drug test, if you can't stop doing drugs.

2
They cannot "make" you do anything. They can, however, refuse to do business with you if you refuse. A private school is a business and they do not have to keep anyone.

3
I assume you knew they had a policy in place regarding drugs. I assume that you knew that had a policy in place for random urine screening. Did you think it 'wouldn't happen to you'? Yes they can, very legal, you don't HAVE to take the test, but they can easily expel you if you refuse.

4
yes most private schools try to keep a high standard for their pupils a good reputation means higher enrollment.

5
A private school can set their own rules. They are completely in their right to do drug testing if you were made aware that was their policy when you were admitted. No way out of the test,it is completely legal. Weed is on this earth do be used for medicinal purposes, not for someone to get stoned out of their gourd.

There are several good schools near Dallas, Highland Park is probably the best, with Coppell, Southlake, and Keller nearly as good. The worst would be something in Dallas Independent School District, take your pick.

3
When you say Dallas, do you actually mean Dallas itself or the Dallas area? As Lester said, some suburbs have exceptionally good school districts - Highland Park, Coppell, Plano, Keller - but Dallas Independent School District is widely known not to be among the best, and may actually be the worst. If you're asking about each individual school rather than district, only the lucky few can go to the best anyway because you have to go to the school in your attendance zone based on your home address.

4
dont go to any school in dallas independent school district. anything outside of that is good

5
The best high school in Dallas is the TAG high school it is actually ranked the best high school in the Nation by News Week Magazine. The Science and Engineering school at Townview ranked #4. Both of these schools are magnet schools so you have to apply to get in. The worst school in dallas is probably Samuel if it is still open, it is low preforming so they talk about shutting it down every year. These high schools are well known to Dallas residents, people who live in the suburbs only focus on the multitude of low performing Dallas schools.

6
I'm sure Hillcrest High School, School of Science and Engineering, Wilson Woodrow High School are three of the best high schools in the place just check out.

Go to this link to read about the homeschooling laws for Texas. http://hslda.org/laws/default.asp?State=TX

3
Texas is one of the best states to homeschool in, as the laws are not restrictive. I read the legal summary of the Texas law on the HSLDA website. It looks like the only requirement is that the student is taught math, reading, spelling, grammar, and good citizenship. (Note: You don't have to be teaching all of these all the time.) I didn't see any rules about taking your child out of school, but I would suggest giving the school a formal letter, saying that your child will no longer be using the services of the public school as of (the date you take him out), and that he will be getting his education privately. You don't necessarily have to say that he will be homeschooled. The laws in Texas favor you. Be sure to join HSLDA. I read that in the "80's, homeschooling was declared illegal in Texas, and parents we being prosecuted. HSLDA helped to change all that, and the decision was completely turned around. Now you are free to homeschool in Texas with very little oversight by the government.

4
Here in Texas, we have some of the easiest homeschooling requirements in the US. There is no paperwork to file. However, if you are withdrawing your child from a school, you should do that, just as though you were switching to another private or public school. The Texas Home School Colilition has a sample withdrawl letter here: http://www.thsc.org/Categories.aspx?Id=0995e7ee-378c-4ef1-ae98-04f26bbcf47b This is key to avoid being considered truant. Curriculum wise, you get to choose. By Texas law you must cover reading, spelling, grammar, mathematics, and good citizenship. The rest is of course necessary for a good education, but not required by TX law. In TX, No one has to approve your curriculum, nor do you need an "accredited" curriuculum. You will want to be aware of any daytime curfew requirements, if any, in your area, so that you are't allowing your child to wander by themself about during school hours if there's a curfew in affect. Where I'm at down in Houston area, it's not a problem. But its' something to know about. If you have question about it, check with one of the local homeschooling groups in Dallas. (There's several, just do a search for "homeschool Dallas, TX" Other than that, the best thing to do is to read the "homeschooling in Texas" info and the FAQs on the Texas Home School Coliition site. They will answer the legal questions. And then get tapped into a local support group or local online support group. Most areas have more than one, and you will eventually find the right one for you as you progress in your homeschooling journey. Enjoy! It is a journey
