I am thinking about attending the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, majoring in Pre-med. I'm wondering if going to a Texas college will help me get into a Texas Medical School, or is this just a myth. Does it matter if the college is public or private? Thanks.

Yes going to a texas college will make a difference. But you might want to consider colleges that have a medical school like UT, Baylor, Texas-Tech etc. If you do your undergrad here and with all the scores at a median you have better chances to get accepted in Med school than others.
